The
granddaughter of a Chicago watchmaker and jeweler, I launched
my own version of a jewelry business, combining interesting
beads from all ends of the earth, metals, silk threads and a
bit of imagination.
It's funny, I never meant for Sarah Kate to become a
"business." I started out creating jewelry that I liked, which
is petite, asymmetric and leans toward mother earth. I gave
away several pieces to friends as gifts, and from
old-fashioned word of mouth, Sarah Kate mushroomed into
something slightly larger than I had in mind. A nice surprise,
to say the least.
My
interest in jewelry design has extended into using my gems to
support three not-for-profit organizations that are near and
dear to me: the National Eating Disorders Association, the
Lupus Research Institute, and the Lupus Foundation of
Illinois. A portion of the proceeds of the
Life Without Ed™ and
Living With Lupus sterling
silver jewelry lines benefit each organization.
I named this fun jewelry venture after my daughter as a small
way to show my appreciation for her. I hope you enjoy my work
as much as I enjoy creating it.
